What age group is the scheme suitable for?

The Adult & Child scheme is suitable for children from walking to 3 years, they then should be able to do the skills without the assistance of an adult. The independent scheme is suitable from 3 to 6 years.

What qualifications do I need to run the scheme?

The scheme is suitable for all childcare practitioners such as Primary Schools Sports Co-ordinators, Teachers and Teaching Assistants [Foundation Stage] British Gymnastics Pre-School Coaches, Community Sports Coaches and Development Officers. There is a minimum age of 16 years and the person must have a validated CRB certificate. For those that want to know more about how to run the scheme, courses are available.

Do I need to buy a starter pack?

The starter packs contain 1 of each of 8 themed wall charts, 8 work cards, an Activity guide, 20 attendance cards, a record of achievement, a sample badge & certificate, an activity signpost, promotional DVD and a FUNkit play brochure. This will help you to get started with the scheme, however, if you want to try just one theme to start with the work cards, wall charts and activity guide can be purchased on their own.

What equipment would you recommend to use with the scheme?

The FUNkit play brochure gives examples of some of the larger apparatus that can be used and there is a FUNkit play bag of hand apparatus.

What is the music on the CD?

The music on the CD has been specifically created to use with the scheme, there are 16 different tracks - FUNky cat theme tune, Peter Rabbit, Healthy Eating Bean song, I Hear Thunder, Travel (instrumental), Stepping stones, Teddy Bears Picnic, Old Mother Hubbard, Time, Castle FUN, Musical statues, Park Song, Seaside, Old MacDonalds Farm, Adventure FUN (instrumental) and Forest FUN (instrumental).

How do I determine when the children are ready to be given the badge?

The scheme aims to encourage children to participate in activity so the reward of the badge & certificate is for participation rather than achievement.

Can I use the FUNdamentals logo?

A license agreement needs to be applied for contact awards@british-gymnastics.org.
